OSHA Boosts Penalties

The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently announced that it has raised its penalties for violations. Congress passed a law a couple of years ago requiring all federal agencies to adjust their penalties annually to reflect inflation.

Under the law, the U.S. Department of Labor must also adjust civil penalties for a variety of regulated areas, such as Immigration, Child Labor, Wage and Hour, MSHA and OSHA.  We have included the fixed penalties for OSHA and I-9 enforcement below as illustrations of the scale of the increase. The penalty increase took effect in early January and will apply to any citations issued during 2018.
