How Do I..

How do I Identify high performers?

Identifying high performers begins with identifying what success means to your organization. Is it productivity, creativity, relationship building, leading and developing others or a combination of these and other skills?

Once the success factors are identified, organizations need a process to communicate these factors to employees as well as a process to evaluate employee performance against them.  One tool that many organizations find helpful is the 9-box analysis. This tool evaluates employees on two criteria – current performance and potential performance. Each criterion is evaluated on a 3 point scale – low, average and high. As a result, employees fall into one of 9 boxes based on their performance and potential. Senior leadership should meet regularly to review these assessments to ensure consistency across the organization and to identify opportunities to further development and motivate high potential / high performing employees.
